Kimberly Clements

Camden County Detention Facility, Camden County, Georgia

Kimberly Clements, a mother of two, died in 2011 while held at the Camden County Jail in Georgia. Jail staff had placed her alone in a cell within view of the booking desk after she told a parole officer she was suicidal. Authorities said she hanged herself from a shower curtain rod in her cell. Her mother, Linda Jenkins, does not accept that explanation and says the jail simply left her daughter alone.

Cause of death, as reported: Died by suicide (disputed; neglect alleged). Authorities say she hanged herself from a shower curtain rod, while her mother does not believe the official explanation; the account also says she had told a parole officer she was suicidal and was placed alone in a cell.

Reported by: authorities; Kimberly Clements's mother (family or their lawyers).
