Kim Wirtz
Kim Wirtz was a 43-year-old transgender woman. Her niece, Shakisha Glass, said Kim spent much of her life struggling to find work and housing because she was trans. Kim died in a single cell at Baltimore Central Booking and Intake Center, where corrections officers found her unconscious just after midnight on February 25, 2021. The Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services said it found no evidence of foul play and was awaiting the state medical examiner's cause and manner of death. Glass said the family wants justice and wants to make sure this does not happen again, and trans advocates held a vigil for her.
