Kevin Wayne Freeman, 52, of Tyler, was held at the Smith County Jail in Texas. The Smith County Sheriff's Office said staff found him in a clinic cell on Saturday, December 11, 2021, after he had tried to hang himself with his shirt, and it classified the death as a suicide. According to the sheriff's office, he was taken to a hospital, where he died that night. A Texas Office of the Attorney General custodial death report also records his death at the jail on that date.
