Kevin Shelton
Kevin Shelton, 30, died on May 20, 2018, while held at the Varner Unit prison in Grady, Arkansas. According to a 2019 KATV report, he had been held in an isolation cell, and days before his death he was tased and restrained, taken to a hospital, and then returned to his cell. Arkansas State Police and the Department of Correction investigated his death, which was pronounced at the unit infirmary in 2018. Investigators, as reviewed by KATV, said an autopsy found plastic bag fragments in his stomach and that they believe he died days after swallowing a bag of methamphetamine, a claim that has not been independently confirmed in the reporting.
