Kevin R. Taylor Jr., 23, was held at Eastern Correctional Institution in North Carolina. Officials said he was struck with a homemade weapon during a fight with another person held at the prison on Saturday, February 29, 2020, around 1:15 p.m., and that emergency responders pronounced him dead less than 15 minutes later. Officials said the other person was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening. The prison was placed on lockdown afterward.
