Kevin Nill
Kevin Nill, 40, of Piqua, died in April 2018 at Lebanon Correctional Institution in Ohio, less than an hour after a new cellmate was placed in the cell. According to Warren County prosecutors, the cellmate strangled Kevin Nill, and investigators believed the killing was meant to get the cellmate transferred to another prison, though the defense has given a different account of the motive. The cellmate was found guilty of aggravated murder in March 2020, and the case moved to a penalty phase. The defense argued that the state and the prison also bore responsibility for the death.
Cause of death, as reported: Killed by another person in custody. The Warren County prosecutor says Kevin Nill's cellmate strangled him in his cell, and a jury later found the cellmate responsible for the killing.
Reported by: Warren County Prosecutor David P. Fornshell; Assistant County Prosecutor Carrie Heisele; jury in the cellmate's trial (court).
