Kevin Lewis

34 years old · died April 15, 2020 · Clark County Detention Center, Clark County, Nevada

Kevin Lewis, 34, died on April 15, 2020, while held at the Clark County Detention Center in Clark County, Nevada. Police said he appeared to have a medical episode around 11 p.m. and that medical personnel tried to save him before he was pronounced dead. The Clark County Coroner's office later listed peritonitis and a ruptured duodenal ulcer as the causes and ruled the death natural. A civil rights lawsuit filed by his father, Michael Lewis, says Kevin had stopped taking his bipolar medication, was never seen by a doctor, and did not receive adequate medical and psychological care, a claim the county has not answered in court because the case is pending.

Cause of death, as reported: Died of illness (disputed; neglect alleged). The Clark County coroner ruled the death natural from peritonitis and a ruptured duodenal ulcer, while his father's lawsuit says staff never had him seen by a doctor and denied him adequate medical and psychological care.

Reported by: Clark County Coroner's office (medical examiner or coroner); his father's civil rights lawsuit (family or their lawyers).

Lawsuit: His father sued in federal court in 2021 (Lewis v. City of Henderson), alleging he was never seen by a doctor and did not receive adequate medical and psychological care; the case closed in 2024 with no settlement reported. Court record: Lewis v. City of Henderson (D. Nev., 2021).
