Kevin Johnson
Kevin Johnson, 37, was executed by lethal injection of pentobarbital at a state prison in Bonne Terre, Missouri, on November 29, 2022, and was pronounced dead at 7:40 p.m., according to the Missouri Department of Corrections. His daughter, Khorry Ramey, was 19 and had sought to witness the execution, but a state age requirement barred her, and a federal judge ruled against her lawsuit challenging it. His attorneys and a special prosecutor argued that racial bias shaped his case and that he had been rehabilitated, and his attorney said the state killed him because he is Black. Courts and Governor Mike Parson declined to halt the execution, and the U.S. Supreme Court denied a stay with two justices dissenting.
Cause of death, as reported: Executed by the state
Reported by: Missouri Department of Corrections (the agency that held him); his attorney; the U.S. Supreme Court (court).
