Kevin Bailey
Kevin Bailey, 56, died in 2020 after a struggle with corrections officers at the Scioto County Jail in Ohio, where he was being moved within the facility. He was taken to a hospital and died there. The Ohio Attorney General's office said his injuries were from blunt force trauma to the head, neck and torso, and a former corrections officer, Billy Thompson, was tried on murder and reckless homicide charges, with a jury finding him not guilty in April 2022. The sheriff's department said Bailey became agitated, ran, and fell and struck his head on an open door, causing a laceration, and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation investigated. His sister, Karen Skaggs, has pursued justice for his death since the summer after it happened.
Cause of death, as reported: Killed by staff (disputed). The Scioto County Sheriff's Office says he fell and struck his head on an open door during an escort, while the Ohio Attorney General says a former corrections officer caused fatal blunt force trauma.
Reported by: Scioto County Sheriff's Office (the agency that held him); Ohio Attorney General (outside investigators).
