Ketchum
Ketchum was one of two men held by the Custer County sheriff and his posse in Nebraska in December 1878. Newspaper accounts say a mob of about twenty-five armed, masked men took the two men from the sheriff's party on the night of Tuesday, December 10, tied them to a tree and burned them to death. One account says the sheriff's party did not resist, while another does not describe the sheriff's response. The accounts differ on details of the killing, and the other man is named only as Mitchell, a name the sources give in varying spellings.
