Keith Bagley
Keith Bagley, 66, died on April 7, 2026, while held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Richland County, South Carolina. Detention staff found him unresponsive in a recreation yard around 7 p.m., and he was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Richland County coroner determined his death was due to toxic effects of synthetic cannabinoids, also known as K2 or spice, and Sheriff Leon Lott said he died of an overdose of K2/Spice. Lott said jail staff did not notify the sheriff's office or the coroner of the death as required, and that the sheriff's office learned of it about 14 hours later through the coroner's office. Lott said former jail compliance director James Lipscomb told staff not to report the death, and a jail official has been charged with obstruction of justice over the delayed reporting.
Cause of death, as reported: Died of an overdose (neglect alleged). The coroner determined the death was due to toxic effects of synthetic cannabinoids, and Sheriff Leon Lott says jail staff did not report the death to the coroner or sheriff's office as protocol requires, and a jail official was charged with obstruction.
Reported by: Richland County coroner (medical examiner or coroner); Richland County Sheriff's Office (Sheriff Leon Lott) (the agency that held him).
