Karl Schmeusser, 46, died on September 2, 2021, at St. Anthony Hospital in Shawnee, Oklahoma, after being taken there from the Pottawatomie County jail. A state medical examiner report attributed his death to respiratory damage due to COVID-19. Oklahoma Watch reported that jail officials did not report his death to the state health department.
