Jyvariel Harvey
Jyvariel Harvey, 25, of Geismar, was found unconscious in the intake and booking section of the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna on May 11, 2022, and was taken to a hospital. He remained there about two weeks and died on May 26, 2022. According to the Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office, toxicology testing found acute fentanyl toxicity; the sheriff's office said the death is under investigation. Authorities have not said how the drugs reached the holding cell, and a second person from the same cell also became ill and was treated.
