Juwon Carter
Juwon Carter, 44, died on September 30, 2023, after a medical emergency at the St. Louis City Justice Center, where he was held. His cellmate alerted guards early that Saturday morning, around 2 a.m., and he was taken to a hospital, where he died later that morning. The Department of Public Safety said the commissioner, the medical examiner and the Force Investigation Unit would investigate, and autopsy results were still pending as of the KSDK I-Team's November 2023 review. Rep. Cori Bush and Mayor Tishaura Jones called for action on medical care at the jail after his death.
