Justin Poteete, 41, died at the Lassen County Jail in Susanville, California, on January 1, 2026, according to the Lassen County Sheriff's Office. Accounts say he was found unresponsive in his single-occupancy cell that morning and that he was pronounced dead at 11:52 a.m. The sheriff's office said there were no signs of foul play or suicide, but the cause and manner of death remain under investigation. An autopsy is being conducted by the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner's Office.
