Judith Gossett, 60, died on July 5, 2026, after she was found unresponsive in her cell at the Moore County Detention Center on a Sunday morning, according to the Moore County Sheriff's Office. The sheriff's office said staff began emergency aid until Moore County EMS arrived and took her to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation into her death. The sheriff's office has not stated a cause or manner of death.
