Juan Utuy-Sarat

Juan Utuy-Sarat, 41, was held at the Mecklenburg County jail. He was taken to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center, where he died on May 2, 2026. Sheriff Garry McFadden said his office offered condolences to Utuy-Sarat's family. The State Bureau of Investigation is investigating his death, and the medical examiner will determine the cause.
