Juan Manuel Torres, 31, died on December 8, 2022, at Winfield Correctional Facility in Winfield, Kansas, where he was held. The Kansas Department of Corrections said staff found him unresponsive in his housing unit. The department said the cause of death is pending an independent autopsy and that a preliminary assessment found no link to COVID-19.
