Juan Carlos Chavez
Juan Carlos Chavez, 46, was executed by lethal injection at Florida State Prison near Starke on February 12, 2014, and was pronounced dead at 8:17 p.m. In a handwritten statement, he said he had found forgiveness in religion and was not afraid of death, and his spiritual adviser was his only visitor that day. His final appeals challenged Florida's three-drug lethal injection procedure and his clemency hearings, but the Florida and U.S. Supreme Courts declined to stop the execution, which was briefly delayed while the U.S. Supreme Court considered a last appeal. The Florida Department of Corrections and the governor's office confirmed the execution was carried out.
