Died in prison
Joseph Michael Wood
Joseph Wood, 33, died while held at St. Clair Correctional Facility, a state prison in the custody of the Alabama Department of Corrections. The department said he was found dead on his cell floor on a Saturday in July 2017, and the prison was locked down during the investigation. One report, dated June 2017, instead said a security check found him unresponsive in his room, that he had no visible stab wounds, and that another person held at the prison was being questioned. The county coroner had not determined the cause of death, and the department said the cause was unclear.
