Joseph Martinez
Joseph Martinez, 21, was held at Calipatria State Prison in California. On a Friday afternoon in February 2020, two other prisoners attacked him on a maximum-security yard, cutting his chest and back. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said he was taken to the prison medical facility and then by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Prison officials are investigating the death and the two men involved in the attack.
