Joseph Corcoran
Joseph Corcoran, 49, was executed by lethal injection at the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City on December 18, 2024. In his final hours, he and his wife, Tahina Corcoran, talked about their faith and their memories, including attending high school together, and his pastor was allowed in the room with him. His attorneys argued that he was severely mentally ill and that his competency to be executed was never evaluated, and his wife said he was very mentally ill and did not seem to grasp what was happening to him, but the courts denied the requests to halt the execution. His attorney said the death took about eight minutes and that there was no way to tell whether he was in pain.
Cause of death, as reported: Executed by the state. His attorneys argued he was severely mentally ill and that his competency to be executed was never evaluated, and his wife said he did not seem to understand what was happening.
Reported by: Indiana Department of Correction (the agency that held him). The only account of how this person died comes from the agency that held him.
