Jose Recoba-Morales
Jose Recoba-Morales, 25, died on March 18, 2019, while held at the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, New Jersey. His funeral services were held in Newark that week. Essex County Prosecutor's Office spokeswoman Katherine Carter said he died of a medical condition, and investigators from the prosecutor's office were called to the jail and found him dead. A corrections officer who worked the overnight shift was later charged with falsifying jail rounds records, but reporting says that case is unrelated to his death. The county executive's office declined to comment, citing an ongoing investigation.
