Jose Lopez Garcia
Jose Lopez Garcia was 28 and had registered as an organ donor. On July 2, 2026, four days after he was booked into the Washington County Jail in Utah, he was found unconscious in his cell; Sheriff Barry Golding said he had been found hanging. He never regained consciousness and was kept on life support until his organs could be donated, and he was pronounced dead on July 10. The Critical Incident Task Force opened an investigation into his death.
Cause of death, as reported: Died by suicide. Sheriff Barry Golding's office said Jose Lopez Garcia was found hanging with self-inflicted injuries in his cell, and no source in the accounts disputes that.
