Jose Jovanny Camarena
Jose Jovanny Camarena, 26, of Nebo, died on February 9, 2022. The McDowell County Sheriff's Office said detention staff found him unresponsive in his cell at the McDowell County Detention Center that morning, and he was taken to McDowell Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The sheriff's office lists the manner of death as pending. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is investigating at the sheriff's office's request, and that investigation is ongoing.
