Jose Garcia
Jose Garcia was held in a jail in New Mexico Territory when, on May 12, 1893, a crowd took him from the jail and hanged him from a tree. He was one of three Mexican men the Deming Headlight reported were killed in this way that Friday morning. The paper described the crowd as made up of the town's leading citizens who acted in an orderly way. Beyond this account, the record offers no further details of his life or of how the jail responded, and the paper's description of the men is not repeated here.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. A crowd took Jose Garcia from the jail and hanged him from a tree, according to the paper.
