Jose Antonio Jimenez

55 years old · died December 13, 2018 · Florida State Prison, Bradford County, Florida

Jose Antonio Jimenez, 55, was executed by lethal injection at Florida State Prison in Starke on December 13, 2018, after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected his final appeal. His attorneys had argued that the state's lethal injection protocol could cause him harm and that key police reports were lost and detectives gave misleading testimony, and they had also asked that a 2018 constitutional amendment and revised death-penalty laws be applied to him, which the Florida Supreme Court rejected. The Department of Corrections described him as calm on the day of the execution, and he ate a last meal and met with a spiritual adviser. The victim's nephew said the family believes justice was done.

Cause of death, as reported: Executed by the state. Jimenez's attorneys argued that the state's lethal injection protocol could cause him harm and that key police reports were lost and detectives gave misleading testimony.

Reported by: Florida Department of Corrections (the agency that held him); his attorneys.
