32 years old · died May 4, 2019 · Warren Correctional Institution, Warren County, North Carolina

Jordan William Jedlica, 32, died on May 4, 2019, at Warren Correctional Institution in Warren County, North Carolina. His family describes him as bright but quiet, and his older brother Justin said he was like a son to him. He was found unresponsive in his cell and taken to Duke University Hospital, where he died; his mother, Tanya Marski, said neglect led to his death and asked why he was placed in solitary confinement and not monitored. The state Department of Public Safety said it is looking into the circumstances and cannot release medical information, and the family's account of the cause, low sodium levels and swelling on the brain, has not been confirmed by an official finding.

Cause of death, as reported: Died of illness (neglect alleged). His mother, Tanya Marski, says staff placed him in solitary and did not monitor him, and she blames neglect for his death, which his family attributes to low sodium levels and brain swelling.

Reported by: mother Tanya Marski and older brother Justin Jedlica (family or their lawyers).
