John Wayne Conner
John Conner was executed by lethal injection at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson on July 15, 2016, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections. His lawyers argued that the long wait after more than three decades and his background of poverty, violence at home and mental impairment made the execution unconstitutional. The State Board of Pardons and Paroles and state and federal courts rejected those arguments, and the U.S. Supreme Court denied a stay shortly before midnight. Warden Eric Sellers recorded the time of death as 12:29 a.m.
