John Walsh

died April 28, 1883 · Hidalgo County, New Mexico

John Walsh was held in the jail at Lordsburg, New Mexico, according to a brief 1883 dispatch datelined Tucson, Arizona, reprinted in the Savannah Morning News. That dispatch says vigilantes took him from the jail and lynched him in late April 1883, and a short Oxford Eagle item from May 1883 says a vigilance committee took him from the jail and killed him. Neither account says how the mob got in, or whether jail officers resisted, gave up the keys or handed him over.
