Died in jail or a lockup
John Strando
John Strando was held in the jail at Johnston City, Illinois, when a mob took him from it late on June 10, 1915. The mob hanged him from a rafter of a nearby building, though the accounts differ on whether it was an icehouse or a tree house. Several people were injured in a fight when members of the town's foreign-born community tried to stop the mob. Militia was sent to the town to prevent further rioting.
