John Redfern
John Redfern was held in the Franklin, Kentucky jail in July 1892, after a shooting near his house that killed P. D. Dunn, a former circuit court clerk. Early on July 13, a mob of about fifty men came to the jail around midnight, woke the jailer and obtained the keys, then took Redfern from his cell. The mob fastened him to a horse, carried him about two miles to Sharp's Branch and hanged him from a tree there. Reports say the mob acted after the shooting, and the account of the shooting itself is disputed.
