John Rakestraw, 31, died on June 22, 2022, at Staton Correctional Facility, a state prison in Alabama. The Alabama Department of Corrections, through spokesperson Kelly Betts, said he was found unresponsive in his cell and the cause of death awaits a full autopsy. The department's Law Enforcement Services Division is investigating the death.
