John O'Sullivan
John O'Sullivan, 43, was held at Jessup Correctional Institution in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. On Sunday, August 14, 2016, officers were called to a fight in progress in the prison's F building and found him bleeding from stab wounds, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled that he died of blood loss from 54 stabbing and cutting wounds. Prosecutors said the attack was retaliation for a gang-related assault at another prison, and that he had tried to make peace with the rival members. Three men were later convicted or pleaded guilty in his death, according to the state's attorney.
Cause of death, as reported: Killed by another person in custody. Maryland State Police and the Anne Arundel County State's Attorney say fellow inmates stabbed him to death in a gang-related attack, and the medical examiner ruled his death a homicide from blood loss.
Reported by: Maryland State Police (outside investigators); Anne Arundel County State's Attorney; Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (medical examiner or coroner).
