John Murphy
John Murphy died in December 1909 at the jail in Stillmore, Georgia, where he had been held since his arrest the previous afternoon. Bystanders heard his cries but could not reach him before the fire killed him. A wire report said he had apparently tried to burn his way out of his cell. A dispatch from the same period placed the death at a jail a few miles from Stillmore.
