John Martini was 79 when he died on September 10, 2009, in his cell at New Jersey State Prison in Trenton, where he was held. He was pronounced dead at 2:21 a.m. Deirdre Fedkenheuer, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Corrections, said an autopsy would determine the cause of death.
