John Manuel Quintanilla

36 years old · died July 16, 2013 · Huntsville Unit, Walker County, Texas

John Quintanilla, 36, was executed by lethal injection by the State of Texas at the Huntsville Unit in Huntsville on July 16, 2013, according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. In his final statement he told his wife he loved her, and she watched through a window and sobbed; she was a German national who had married him by proxy while he was held in prison. His lawyers argued that a confession used against him was coerced, and the U.S. Supreme Court refused two appeals filed on the day of his execution. CBS News reported that he was pronounced dead about 15 minutes after the drug was given.
