John Calvin, 56, died of colon cancer on January 25, 2023, while held at El Dorado Correctional Facility in Kansas, his family said. His family had asked for a compassionate release so he could die at home or in hospice, but a federal judge denied the request. He died without family beside him, according to the family. His attorney said a whole community fought for him.
