John Fitch
John Fitch, a Black man, was in custody and being taken to jail near Chapel Hill when a masked mob seized him. According to the Kansas City Daily Journal, which published its report on September 25, 1896, the mob lynched him on September 23. He was killed near Chapel Hill that day after the mob took him from custody.
