John D was held in the jail at Redding. According to the Walker Lake Bulletin, a mob took him from the jail on the Sunday morning of July 31, 1892, and lynched him. The paper's accusations against him are not repeated here.

Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. The Walker Lake Bulletin reports that John D was taken from the Redding jail and lynched.
