Executed
John Childers
John Childers was hanged at Fort Smith, Arkansas, on August 15, 1873, after being taken from the jail to the gallows. Executioner George Maledon, recalling the day years later in 1887 accounts, said a storm broke out during the ceremony just as the trap was sprung, and that the sun came back out once the body was cut down. These accounts are retrospective recollections published long after the hanging, and they describe no other details of his life.
Cause of death, as reported: Executed by the state
Reported by: George Maledon, executioner.
