Joey Grindstaff
Joey Grindstaff, 23, was one of eight men who died in a fire at the Mitchell County jail in Bakersville, North Carolina, on May 3, 2002. Mitchell County Sheriff Ken Fox said the men died of smoke inhalation. Reports said the cells had to be opened one at a time with keys during the rescue. The cause of the fire had not been determined as of the following Saturday.
