Joey
Joey, 36, was a husband and father of four who married Amanda Courchesne six months after they met. The children love music as much as he did, and the family hangs a large flag in his honor at home. He died in October 2022 at Coos County Corrections in West Stewartstown, New Hampshire, two days after he was taken there, and his death certificate lists alcohol withdrawal as the cause. His widow's lawsuit against Coos County, the jail and corrections officers says staff saw his condition worsening, that he asked to be taken to a hospital and was not, and that a safety check and resuscitation came too late. Jail officials have not commented on the claims, and a lawyer for the defendants has said the lawsuit should play out in court; an internal investigation reportedly found he did not take prescribed medication or seek medical care.
Cause of death, as reported: Died from neglect by staff (disputed). The death certificate lists alcohol withdrawal, while his widow's lawsuit says staff saw his condition worsening, did not take him to a hospital when he asked, and responded too late with a safety check and resuscitation.
Reported by: death certificate; Amanda Courchesne's lawsuit against Coos County, the jail and corrections officers (family or their lawyers).
Lawsuit: His widow, Amanda Courchesne, sued Coos County, the Coos County jail and corrections officers over Joey's death.
