40 years old · died September 2, 2016 · Fairbanks Correctional Center, Fairbanks, Alaska

Joel Titus, 40, owned The Wireless Connection, a cellphone repair shop in Fairbanks that grew quickly. State legislator David Guttenberg remembered him as a go-getter who had gotten sober and had potential to do good things. He was being treated for alcohol withdrawal at the Fairbanks Correctional Center when staff found him unresponsive during a security check on September 2, 2016, and he was pronounced dead at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital less than an hour later. The Alaska corrections department said he had been medically cleared and returned to the jail for outpatient detoxification.
