Joe Dixon
Joe Dixon, 29, was an insulin-dependent diabetic who died in his cell at George County Correctional Facility in September 2014. Prosecutors allege he was denied adequate medical attention over nine days and went about seven days without insulin while a registered nurse was responsible for his care. The defense says jailers failed to report his condition. A former jail nurse was tried on a manslaughter charge, the jury could not reach a unanimous verdict, and prosecutors said they will retry the case.
