Jimbo Fields
Jimbo Fields, a 16-year-old Black youth, was held in the Shelbyville, Kentucky jail in October 1901. Sources say a mob took him from the jail in the early morning hours of October 2 and hanged him from a Chesapeake and Ohio railroad trestle near the depot. The jailer refused to give up his keys, and the mob battered the jail doors down. The mob's action was linked to the killing of a local printer, Will C. Hart, but the accounts say the details of Hart's death were not accurately known, and no one in the crowd was identified.
