Jim Smith
Jim Smith, a Black man, died on September 12, 1894, near Stark, Florida. According to a Jacksonville Times-Union dispatch, he was being taken to jail that morning when masked men overpowered the jailers holding him. The mob took him from their custody and hanged him from a tree.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. A Jacksonville Times-Union dispatch says a masked mob overpowered the jailers while Smith was being taken to jail and hanged him from a tree.
