According to a San Antonio newspaper account, a mob gathered at the jail from morning and forced its way in shortly before noon, found him in his cell, and dragged him toward the public square before hanging him at the new courthouse. Another paper says the mob hanged him from the rafters of the courthouse under construction near the jail.
