Jesus De Leon

38 years old · died February 27, 2018 · Theo Lacy Facility, Orange County, California

Jesus De Leon, 38, was the father of three and the fiancé of Diana Ramirez, the mother of his son. He was held at the Theo Lacy Facility in Orange, California, where, according to a federal civil rights lawsuit filed by his family, he repeatedly told medical staff he had high blood pressure and headaches but was given ibuprofen rather than his prescribed treatment. The lawsuit says he collapsed in the jail from a brain aneurysm and brainstem stroke and was found about an hour later. He died at UC Irvine Medical Center on February 27, 2018, a week after collapsing, and the lawsuit names Orange County, jail staff and Sheriff Don Barnes as defendants. The Sheriff's Department disputes a grand jury's findings on cardiovascular deaths in county jails, and the individual defendants have moved to dismiss the case.
