Jesse Jacobs
Jesse Jacobs, 32, was held at the Galveston County Jail in March 2015, and his parents describe him as a son who worried he would not get his medication while inside. He had long taken Xanax for panic attacks and other conditions. After a seizure on March 13, he was taken to UTMB in critical condition and died the following day, March 14. The autopsy lists a seizure disorder as the cause, with the manner undetermined. His family says jail medical staff withheld his Xanax and that withdrawal caused the seizures; the sheriff's office said jail doctors evaluated and treated him, and a state review cleared the jail, while the family's lawsuit is pending.
Cause of death, as reported: Died of illness (disputed; neglect alleged). The autopsy lists a seizure disorder and the sheriff says the death was natural, but his family says jail staff withheld his Xanax and withdrawal caused the seizures.
Reported by: autopsy report; Galveston County Sheriff Henry Trochesset (the agency that held him); Galveston police officials (the agency that held him); his family.
Lawsuit: His family filed a lawsuit over his death that is still pending, with no settlement or award reported.
